In 1924 Cassius Emlen Urban, a famous local architect known for his Classical Revival style architecture in buildings such as - Milton Hershey's Mansion, The Watt & Shand Building, Hershey Community Center and many more, was commissioned to build a new home for the Moose Lodge.
Completed in 1928, this building stood as the home of the Elizabethtown Moose until December 2019. The original design allowed for a large 3,200 sq. ft. ballroom on the 2nd floor facing N. Market street, a movie theatre, retail space behind the large glass windows on the square and a meeting room for the Moose in the basement. In the late 1970s, the Moose Lodge closed the ballroom, movie theatre and retail space, and moved their lodge operations into the community space for the next 50 years ... leaving little community connections for the facility outside of the Moose members. The Marriage Hub purchased the building in February 2020 with a goal of creating a headquarters for their marriage ministry and an opportunity to bring the newly commissioned "The Elizabeth" back into the community while maintaining its historic beauty. |
